What Do You Bring to The Table Part 2

Image
Hey guys. How have you all been? I am inspired to put up the second part of my last blog post today. In my last post, I discussed what it meant to "bring something to the table" in our careers and jobs. Like I promised, in today's post, we will be shifting from a professional focus to a more personal level and discuss bringing something to the table in relationships. I once followed a thread on twitter where there was a debate on the roles of both genders in a relationship and i think the discussion was sparked by a guy who tweeted that women are always canvassing for equal gender roles yet they always want men to take care of the bills for them. Several arguments then ensued in favour and against the guys standpoint and many of the arguments raised were actually very valid and this made me think about gender roles, dynamics of a relationship and gender equality (For the record, gender roles and gender equality do not mean the same thing but that is a differen...

What Do You Bring to the Table?

Image
The question posed above is not totally unfamiliar. Many of us have heard it at one point or the other even if just on social media. However, how many of us have really taken the time to ponder on this question deeply and the meaning that the answer has on our lives. If you are asked this question in a job interview, chances are your potential employers want to know what skills or extra flair you can bring aside from what is stated on your resume. They want to know how having “YOU” on their team will be a plus for them. Notice the fact that I put “you” in caps. Let me explain. Most likely, you are not the only one being interviewed for that particular position. If you are being interviewed for the position of an accountant, then all the other candidates bring in their accounting skills to the table. By asking what “You” bring to the table, they want to know what separates you from the rest and why you should be hired in place of candidate B, C and the rest. Havi...

Defining Your Purpose

Image
I have learnt time and time again that our purpose sometimes is beyond what we see at the present. Hey guys, hope you're all doing well? Remember in my last blog post, I talked about starting over? Well, my blog is really going to be doing a lot of that. When I first started blogging, I wasn't sure what I was going to blog about. I love to write but it has always been just a hobby and I never really took it seriously. Actually, I never really believed that I was that good a writer or that I could make a career out of it. That was until I got a job as a content writer. Details on that story in another post 😁 When I also started blogging, my purpose was unclear. Everyone was either a gossip or beauty and fashion blogger. I can't do gossip and I'm not exactly beauty and fashion role model or expert either so I was really confused. I decided to just wing it. This further fueled why I gave up after a while, I didn't even know what I was doing...

STARTING OVER

Image
What do you do when you lose yourself? When you feel you have failed and can't find your way back? How do you get back on track after giving up on a dream? For over a year, I have not written a single post on this blog. Of course, I accept I wasn't always consistent but I never ever allowed the blog stay dormant for so long. Actually, I was beginning to get better at the frequency of my posts but then something happened, If you click here , you will see a post where I encouraged all who read my blog to share as much as possible so that others could also visit the blog. Sadly, that wasn't happening, my blog wasn't getting traction and I got super discouraged.  My last two posts got less than 50 views each and I just began to wonder if this was really worth it. Note that money was not even the cause of this, after all, I hadn't even commercialized the blog yet but i felt like people weren't even appreciating my work. I mean, every blogge...

RECIPES FOR SUCCESS IN 2017- LESSONS CARRIED OVER FROM 2016

Image
So, everyone is excited to have entered into a new year, after all 2016 was a rather dramatic and eventful year and we can’t wait to see how 2017 pans out. In all honesty, I can’t wait either. While the year had its drastic downs; there were also the fabulous ups. And trust me, 2016 was actually the best year ever for some people. I can’t exactly say it was the same for me but it wasn’t a bad year either. I had a lot of good experiences and I simply count the others as lessons not necessarily bad experiences. So, moving forward into 2017 I have been able to curate some of these experiences and have used them in drawing up my recipes for success in 2017. So, if you’re interested in getting my recipes; please grab your popcorn as this might be quite a read. 1.     There is no such thing as a wasted experience: Every single moment or experience in life is useful, believe it or not. An experience only becomes wasted when you fail to see it for what it is;...

THE ART OF GROWING TOGETHER

Image
Hello guys. Hope you're doing great? So, obviously; today's post is inspired by something that has been trending on social media this week, at least, here in Nigeria. So, popular and somewhat controversial on-air personality Toke Makinwa just announced that she had written a book to be launched this month. The book happens to be kinda a story of her life, and how she rose from the ashes to the throne. The announcement obviously brought a lot of speculation especially since she said the idea was divinely inspired. However, analyzing all of that is not the purpose of this post. Typically, I try to be as objective as possible in analyzing things; so I believe there's always lessons to be learned in every situation. When I saw Toke's post on Instagram announcing her book, I was a bit surprised, to be honest. But, the second thing to strike me was the fact that her friend Arese Ugwu had just published a book of her own which was also making waves. I am writin...

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

img source: http://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/ Hey guys, how are you doing? See, I kept my promise even though it's almost end of day. I said I will post twice a week henceforth and I will try my very best to ensure this. However, there's a slight challenge this week and that's the fact that I don't have anything to post today! Can you believe that? I didn't plan well and I had a crazy weekend so I really didn't think about what I was going to post. But, I was tired of giving excuses for not posting on the blog and since I have resolved to post twice a week, twice a week I will even if it's just random ramblings. I apologise for this little glitch and I promise to be up and running in no time people. I'm working on a schedule of posts for the blog that I'm sure you'll be excited about. How many yay's for me? I hear so many. Thanks for the support people. There are some loyalists who read all of  my posts. However, we have a small  ...
